For twenty-two years I stood behind a chair. But I always wanted to do more than cut their hair. I wanted to dress the women they described.

Nine years ago a boutique on my route stood empty. Dark windows. A sign on the door. I called the number. Traded my scissors for a needle. 

And for six years, I never looked back.

But the last three years have been different.

Everything I sell I make with my own hands. Every stitch, every seam. Materials cost more. Energy bills I can barely plan around. Every delivery costs more than the month before.

And I'm carrying all of it alone — no partner, no second income, two kids at home.

There were nights I sat at my kitchen table, hands still sore, invoices in front of me, thinking: I don't know how much longer I can do this.

But I'm not ready to close that door.
